Short-Eared Owls

On a cold and blustery January day, we decided to drive northeast to Killdeer Plains Wild Life Area in search of Owls. Photographic conditions were horrid….
We were successful in locating the Short Eared Owls, and despite sleet and drizzle, were able to capture a few images.
It was such a joy seeing these birds and watching them soar and course that the images were just an extra….the real treat was in having the opportunity to see them!

In addition, we were treated to the sight of several Northern Harriers.

Redheads

The weather today wasn’t conducive to a photo shoot, so I had to be content to look back at what I was shooting in years’ past. One of my favorites was this pair of Red-Headed Ducks. They stopped over for a short visit at Old Reid in the winter of 2008.redheads-5038

It was a wonderful experience to be close to these beauties….even if some of them didn’t care to interact!

Moorefield Christmas 2012

Merry Christmas!!
I had the pleasure of doing photos at the annual Moorefield Twp Christmas Party last evening.
Over the years, I’ve seen many changes in the township, but nothing brings it home like seeing the children and how much they have grown up!
With the exception of last year, I have photographed the kids with Santa since 1995.
You can order additional photos two ways….through my SmugMug Gallery or through Walmart.

White-Winged Crossbills

Hearing reports from across Ohio that birders have been sighting White Winged Crossbills, we decided to drive through Oakdale Cemetary in Urbana, Ohio to see if we would be fortunate enough to see some there.
We found at least 40 birds, all feasting on pinecones in a hemlock tree.
